ok thanks, i've tested your patch on bash and it works,
commited it to latest cvs on alioth,
could you test the fix on your system:
please add to your sources.list (apt-get update && apt-get upgrade)
# logcheck testing
deb http://debian.stro.at sarge/
deb-src http://debian.stro.at sarge/

you'll get the release canditat for 1.2.21 logcheck,
thanks for your feedback in advance.
i'll hope we can release that nailed down.
