Argh!! My previous neurodebian cow builders did not include precise but
I did not expect being affected by any changes from Debian wheezy and
Ubuntu precise (I forgot the transition to unbversioned octave was recent).

Ok, I have added a symlink for precise to the backport patch and added
Ubuntu precise to my builders.

Everything should build fine now!
