Sorry, I missed this last part. The suggestion of lintian is correct, go
ahead and follow it:

1.3.0~rc1+hg576 < 1.3.0~rc1+hg666 < 1.3.0~rc2 < 1.3.0~rc2+hg777 < 1.3.0

Look at other packages conversioning patterns when in doubt.
