Initial Comment:
Howdy,
My system appears to see the APC connected to the USB port, as it is identfied by DMESG:

<snip>
usb 3-1: new low speed USB device using address 2
hiddev96: USB HID v1.10 Device [APC Back-UPS ES 725 FW:802.n2.D USB FW:n2] on usb-0000:00:10.1-1

System spec:

Server-Gateway config, web server, mail server...

What I was expecting is NUT to communicate with my APC.
FWIW, I have also tried the hidups driver with the same results.

If you need any other logs, please let me know.
Thanks
Joe

Message:
Also, what if you add "-u root" after "newhidups"? This could be a permissions problem.

Support for the old hidups driver has been dropped.

Message:
Could you try with nut-2.0.5-pre2? Some bugs have been fixed
in the newhidups driver since the release of nut-2.0.4, this
might be related.
