Category: None
Group: None
>Resolution: Fixed

Initial Comment:
upgraded recently from opensuse 10.2 / nut 2.0.5 (newhidups) to opensuse 10.2 / nut 2.2.0 (usbhid-ups) using APC usb-connected UPS

udev failed to set gid appropriately (opensuse configuration uses group "uucp")

running udev in debug logging mode revealed that connection is recognized as:
Oct 14 11:20:35 marty udevd[1069]: udev_event_run: seq 1646 forked, pid [26967], 'add' 'usb', 0 seconds old
...
Oct 14 11:20:35 marty udevd[1069]: udev_event_run: seq 1647 forked, pid [26968], 'add' 'usb_endpoint', 0 seconds old
Oct 14 11:20:35 marty udevd[1069]: udev_event_run: seq 1648 forked, pid [26969], 'add' 'usb', 0 seconds old

There are no udev log entries for 'usb_device', which is what 52_nut-usbups.rules expects:
SUBSYSTEM!="usb_device", GOTO="nut-usbups_rules_end"

To get upsd working, I copied 52_nut-usbups.rules to 52-nut-usbups.rules (matches existing rules files naming conventions) and changed "usb_device" to "usb".

This has been fixed in both the development and the upcoming stable versions. There is nothing more we can do.

Message:
This has already been reported to openSUSE:

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=331749

Apparently, the SUBSYSTEM name has changed with the updated kernel.
