This has been fixed in the trunk version. The driver should actually read all data in one 64-byte chunk of data, so that flushing is no longer needed. If this doesn't work for you, specify in ups.conf that you want to use the 'phoenix' subdriver that flushes the input pipe before sending a command (not recommended).
