We ended up getting a load of support requests, following the removal of these buggy devices from the USB helper files.
As a conclusion, it's easier for users in general to get NUT default behavior (ie, set right privileges on known USB devices) when NUT is installed.
Corner case is still on IDs used by different classes of devices, as mentioned by Arjen (UPS or GPS), which should be minimal or void.
