Indeed, that's what it seemed to me, upstream seems far ahead.

My interest here was to fix the FTBFS that we have on ppc64el and mipsel
that was introduced by a previous patch.
Sadly I don't have time and knowledge atm to support openrc fully.

That's right.
At the moment, I don't see openrc in the "Request For Adoption" list nor
in the "in need of help" list. Wouldn't it be the waycto go ?
What's your plan ?
In the meantime, can Thomas Goirand, Benda Xu or Roger Leigh have a look
at the patch ?
