How portable is user-mode-linux?

I found this http://umlwin32.sourceforge.net/.  Couldn't find any Hurd port.
Since it would only make light usage of Linux's features (i.e. just file
access), a crappy port of UML should be adequate.

So, I think you could get Parted to invoke its own copy of UML, and have fake
userland programs similar to convertfs that tell UML to do various FS
operations.
