Hmmm… FWIW, I just tried control_get_firware with my reader, on both 
my computers.
On the desktop, I get:
| Reader: Gemalto USB Shell Token V2 (EB846942) 00 00
|  Firmware: GemCore USB 3.0

While on the laptop I get:
| Reader: Generic CCID Reader (EB846942) 00 00
|  Firmware: GemCore USB 3.0

Is it expected that the reader shows up differently on both computers?
