This is a comment following an observation made during a demo for a
small conference.

If you're running the Naming Service on a computer that has
avahi-daemon running and that your DNS servers are not reachable (e.g.
no internet connexion), beware, communication will fail with a
misleading error message.

I haven't found the culprit until i turned on wireshark and started
sniffing the packets moving around.
For some reason, A record requests were sent even tho no url were involved.

Disabling avahi-daemon fixed the issue and everything started working
as expected.

Bottom-line, if you plan on using the Naming Service offline, make
sure you turn off the avahi-daemon.

Cheers,

-Pascal
