It's free for open source projects:

http://offers.assembla.com/free-public-portfolios/
Assembla itself is open source, although under a non-free license:

At work we've got a 200 users portfolio, not cheap but well worth every cent.

Yes, I know Trello. It's very good on what it does. But it only
provides a fraction of the features Assembla offers.
If you look at each tool separately, Assembla is certainly not the
best in any of them. You will always find a better git host (GitHub),
a better Mercurial host (BitBucket), a better Scrum tool (Rally), a
better wiki (MediaWiki), a betterr forum (PHPBB, vBulletin), etc
The nice thing about Assembla is it offers *all* the features together
and all very well integrated.
The Stream (something like the Wall in Facebook), for instance, is
crucial to the project I've been involved for the past 2.5 years:
we've got 4 development teams, marketing, management, verification &
validation, training, doc writers, etc. It's about ~120 people working
on the same project, from 9 locations in 6 countries. Before Assembla,
people barely knew what the guy sitting next to him was doing. The
Stream has changed that forever and for better for us. When I look
back and think of what we had, Rational ClearQuest, ClearCase and a
huge flux of e-mails with always-someone-missing... it makes me cry.
BTW I'm just a happy Assembla customer & user, not on commission ;-)
