Can you show me the first 40 lines of your
/var/lib/aide/aide.conf.autogenerated?

This looks like bad error handling on my part and a consecutive fault.

Can you show me what's left in your /etc/aide directory after purging
aide?

The file in question is /var/lib/aide/aide.conf.autogenerated. I'll
see if I can properly point you towards the file in the wrapper or in
aide itself.
