Does Ubuntu use a tmpfs as /var/run? Debian doesn't, and thus this
behavior cannot be reproduced with Debian.

On a freshly installed Debian unstable system, this can only be
reproduced because the aide database needs to be initialized first.
The cronjob doesn't abort because of /var/run/aide missing.
