I initially wrote both Perl and Python modules for cdbs, and I share 
some smart addon routines between most of the 50+ packages I maintain. 
So I have been quite devoted to cdbs.

Then came the rants by Joey Hess this spring (I read it at the 
debian-perl team list, but I believe it was on his blog too, and spawned 
quite a discussion in -devel as well). It made me think hard about cdbs, 
but didn't convince me to abandon it.

Then he introduced debhelper v7...

I have not yet found time to look into rewriting my addons and my use of 
dependency resolving as dh hooks, but expect it to be possible, and if 
so, I am ready to ditch my companion for some years!

But it could take half or full years before I reach there, and until 
then I am happy to brag about the smartnes of cdbs - just ask :-)
