Correction:

Please commit changes to git now!

But please pretty please separate code changes from updates to 
debian/changelog:

  * Do *not* use debcommit, but use "git commit".
  * Write as commit message the same string as is intended for the 
    changelog (on one looong line, even if it is longer than 
    git-recommended 40 characters).

When preparing a new packaging release (and from time to time 
in-between), do "git dch".
