Hmm... Probably, two:
(1) debian/update.sh looks only on awstats.*.conf files (it's not yet
backward compatible). I suggest to
make /etc/awstats/awstats.conf - a common part for ALL virtual hosts.
(2) use separate uid for awstats (see discussion "RFC - cron-related
stuff" in -devel maillist). Last message:

In short: (1) either create a bit complex suid wrapper (give
_readonly_ access for awstats cron scripts _only_ to
www-logfiles) OR (2) give _readonly_ access for awstats cron scripts
to ALL @adm stuff (simple, yet insecure solution).
