My initial thought too.  The nice thing about Steffen's idea is, though, that
it also allows for r-omegahat-* (should we get back to packaging more from
there) and the odd r-other-foo-* etc pp.  The r-cran.mk becomes 'generic'
despite its name.

Any thoughts?
