Just a note on this part:

Yep.
But --to-stdout.... will not solved the problem. As the next invocation
of cran2deb.pl, it will not find the extracted DESCRIPTION file, so 
it will redo an tar --to-stdout.... So Yes, we are first extracting 
the DESCRIPTION, reading all description, building the graph order build
list, and build the packages.
