Have a look at what is in http://r-forge.r-project.org in the cran2deb svn
repository -- now it is mostly R-based with some shell scripts and sql
magic.  We're building 1800+ packages on two architectures.

Charles and I would love to walk you through. This is rewrite not really
based on the earlier 'v1.0' you worked on with Steffen and me.
