Right.  If you do not have git and the other build dependencies
installed, you can try to run this command as root to install them:

  apt-get install git-core fakeroot git-buildpackage cdbs debhelper \
    dh-buildinfo devscripts libboost-system-dev libboost-system-dev \
    libboost-filesystem-dev libboost-program-options-dev \
    libboost-thread-dev libboost-test-dev libdb++-dev libssl-dev \
    pkg-config qt4-qmake libqt4-dev libqrencode-dev

It should install most or all the build dependencies for the squeeze
build.  Then you can try to recipe as your own user.
