Perhaps something is different in build options or in the build environment?
Are you re-building Debian package? We also build it from source, you know...

Would you be able to compare build logs? Are you sure the same version of 
"bfgminer" do not work when installed from official Debian package?
Do you still have this problem with latest "bfgminer" from "testing"?
