I think it is not about trust. It would be crazy to build private version of 
let's say MySQL and let Litecoin to link it statically. As far as I'm aware 
Litecin just stores raw key/value data without any advanced features like 
triggers or stored procedures. They could have used file system to store that 
(although it probably wouldn't be very efficient). Therefore there is a 
little risk of using system LevelDB library that at least runs its own post-
build tests suite on every re-build.

I have no confidence in upstream ability to effectively track updates in 
bundled libraries.

I hope it makes sense.
