Is this commit the HEAD of what you cloned?: a788e04

That commit seems to match the last maintainer release - the 3 newest 
releases were NMUs (non-maintainer uploads), also indicated by the 
version number having a minor version.

Therefore, I suggest that you base your work on commit a788e04 and if 
needed cherry-pick newer changes from the source packages manually.
