I'm assuming Groestlcoin is similar to Bitcoin etc. in that changes do happen periodically on the network -- soft forks, etc.

This makes cryptocurrencies inappropriate for inclusion in stable releases. Same criteria as for any¹ package I am involved in maintaining:
Reasonable confidence the code is relevant and worthwhile to maintain,
I assume "this coin" is Groestlcoin (as hinted in your subject line).

Well, it fits above criteria for me personally.

Why do you ask?

If you feel some coin(s) ought to have a(n improved) presence in Debian,
feel free to get involved and package them yourself - or convince/hire
me or others to do it on your behalf.

If you feel Groestlcoin is problematic to get support in Debian, please
do elaborate.
Which rationale are you referring to?

I have no plans currently to hold back Groestlcoin packaging from
getting into stable Debian.

I am not involved with Ubuntu. If you have a particular interest in that
other distribution, I suggest you get in touch with them yourself.
