Yes, that is also ok and supported by svn-buildpackage (you just need to take care that you specify things like trunkUrl
in the layout information).
As a part of the Debian Games Team I can confirm that sometimes having trunk instead of "sid" is somewhat confusing,
especially when experimental changes take place.
