[Pkg-bluetooth-maintainers] Bug#874094: bluez: please default Device "friendly name" to hostname without domain

Package: bluez
Version: 5.45-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

It seems the default "friendly name" appears to be the hostname
of the system including the domain name. For example, on my
laptop this is:

  keyboardcat.chris-lamb.co.uk

Upon connecting my laptop with my Bose speakers, the latter
device "talks" this name out loud which is a little too long
and is quite annoying at 6am.

Whilst I can change the name in "blueman-applet" → "Adaptors",
I think it would be better if the default was simply the machine
name itself, ie. without the domain name ("keyboardcat").

Regards,
