That comment does indeed look promising.  The "fontconfig-lcdfilters"
screenshot seems to demonstrate the problem: the third column, using
lcdlegacy (apparently not possible with unpatched Chromium), looks like
the rendering from other applications on my system.  The first column,
which uses lcddefault instead, looks much blurrier.
