Could you get a backtrace when in this state? It works like this:

 1. Install chromium-dbg.
 2. Run "chromium --temp-profile -g" from a terminal and type "run" to
    get it going.
 3. Get a tab to hang.
 4. Hit ^C.
 5. Get a backtrace following the instructions from

Yes, there are lots of differences between Chromium and Firefox.

Thanks for reporting it.
