"Chromium" is a proper noun and should be capitalized.

By the way, "open source" is redundant considering that chromium is in Debian. Depending on the length/precision balance we want, I would suggest:
> Chromium web browser 
> Chromium web browser, similar to Google Chrome 
> Chromium web browser, an open-source counterpart to Google Chrome
