I cannot see, what the problem here is.
The output you post for 'xclip -o' seems quite reasonable.
What is the difference to 'xclip -o -selection clipboard'?

The page http://thesprouts.org/who does not exist anymore, but copying 
from  http://thesprouts.org worked well for me.

Furthermore the bug report is quite old, so please try, whether it is 
still a problem in current versions of chromium.
