What do you have with:

xrdb -query | grep -i Xft.dpi
xfconf-query -c xsettings -lv | grep -i Xft.dpi

Also, from your screenshots, it seems that your desktop environment is
rather small for something to be displayed at 177 dpi. I would assume
that the value is ignored in most of your environment. How does "zenity
--entry" look like?
