As the opacify extension is an add-on installed "on the side" (that is, not part of the packaged cinnamon) we are not able to keep track of the problems caused by it.
I've kept this bug in my to do list as a way remind me that it would be nice to have a way to start cinnamon without loading extensions. But I couldn't manage to dedicate time to this and the easiest approach is to start a session with a newly created user.
I'm tagging the issue as wontfix, as it allows the issue to stay visible, but of course, if a patch is provided to either allow starting cinnamon without external extensions or to catch the extensions errors and disable the buggy extension I would be happy to review it.
