Hi,

Sorry that it took us so long to address your bug report.

I had seen a similar issue to what you reported, but I just tried 
to reproduce the problem with 3 different cinnamon versions 
and I wasn't able to reproduce the issue in any of them.

Are you still able to reproduce the issue with the version in testing? (2.8)

If yes, could you try with the one in unstable? (3.0) (if you don't want to 
switch to unstable, you can maybe just wait until 3.0 is in testing, but
given that there are some transitions implied, I don't know how long it 
will take).

If you can still reproduce, can you please show the output of:
dconf read /org/cinnamon/desktop/keybindings/media-keys/play

When it works and when it doesn't work.
