Did you experience any further freezes after reinstalling acpid?

If you didn't, then I would be inclined to think that this was the root cause 
of your freezes and close this bug.

I have tested several different versions of cinnamon with the 
non-free nvidia drivers that you mentioned and didn't experience the 
freezes reported.
