The main point of difference between asdf-install and using deb packages
is that with deb packages the system will remove fasl files when
installing new lisp implementations, so you don't have the 'aargh cannot
load this because the x86f is from a different version' or 'my app
suddenly crashes for no good reason'.

If you remove the fasls when installing a new sbcl/cmucl/etc then there
is no practical difference.
