I was about to try on the Debian arm porter machine, but it seems dead.

Great! I'm also working on this, hopefully we will find something.
It's really bad that omniorb4 cannot migrate to testing.

I'm afraid it will not change anything. I also have considered dropping
omnicpp in favor of cpp (because that would work around our FTBFS), but
then found that's how it was before[1].
