That would be very buggy.  libcups.so is only required for linking,
*not* for use at runtime.

$ objdump -p /usr/lib/libcups.so | grep SONAME
  SONAME      libcups.so.2

If opera requires it, it is broken.

Please could you provide the output of

  $ objdump -p `which $OPERA` | grep NEEDED

where $OPERA is the name of the opera binary.
