[Pkg-cups-devel] recent regressions in CUPS affect postinst of CUPS and CUPS-PDF

Dear CUPS maintenance team,

It appears that two recent bug reports both point to recent
regressions in CUPS that make the startup script and lpadmin to ask
for the root password:

Bug#539156: cups-pdf: requires user interaction on installation
Bug#544137: why does cups postinst ask for root password?

This is a regression over previous behavior, where the root user never
was asked for a password; only non-root users needed to provide a
password.
Could one of our recent patches and/or recent upstream changes have
altered this behavior?
