Thanks for starting on this. In fact I'd recommend a kind of "bug
bancruptcy" approach here: For every bug that was filed against < 1.4
(which should be the majority), set it to "moreinfo" and ask whether
the reporter can confirm it on current sid. Then just close the ones
which don't get a response after one or two months (and of course the
ones which got fixed in the meantime).

Otherwise you'll go crazy with following up on all the bugs
individually. Time is better spent on the recent ones.

Well, I suggested that such a document would be useful indeed, but in
fact I don't even know enough about all the
filters/gutenprint/gs/drivers/etc. chain myself :( (Remember, I am not
a "real" cups maintainer..)
