I'm seeing similar things with my Lexmark Optra N PS printer.
However, if I attempt to print plain postscript files, things
work just fine.

I also discovered that the ghostscript-supplied pdf2ps command
produces postscript files which generate a blank page when printed,
while they display fine using gs. Thus I suspect that this problem
may actually have more to do with ghostscript that cups.

poppler-utils (xpdf) supplied pdftops produces printable postscript.
