I'm with you on this. I have seen while applying the patches that the 
2.2 code does check for received signals (including SIGALRM), but it 
doesn't look as if it is setting an alarm timer when creating locks. 
That's why the patch is only partially applied: The signal handling was 
mostly in place already. I'm just not 100% sure the applied patch part 
does the trick.
