It is not a problem for us to change the binary, that wasn't a concert at
all, at least not for me.

The question is a change of default values, which you requested and at least
two of us agree that should be made, and how to best deploy it.

Sven, I think your solution is quite good.  I vote for sending this upstream
for possible changes in 2.3, and I am now supporting your position that we
should change the Debian default config (regardless of upstream's acceptance
of the patch or not) via the default config file to downcase lmtp
localparts.
