This may not help with your quota issue, but for what it's worth here's
the exim4 transport I use, based on some advice whose source I don't
recall:
# Deliver to local cyrus IMAP server via LMTP
cyrus:
  debug_print = "T: cyrus for $local_part@$domain"
  driver = lmtp
  delivery_date_add
  envelope_to_add
  return_path_add
  user = cyrus
  socket =  /var/run/cyrus/socket/lmtp
  batch_max = 40
So I don't need to invoke an external program.
