FWIW, there is an associated patch in upstream CVS, which we should use
instead of applying the 2.2 version of the patch and fixing it. I would
have to check the commit email and/or CVS changelogs to isolate them.
Maybe I will have the necessary time next week or over the following
days (I'm on the Linux-Kongress 2006 in Nuremberg this week). But since
there is a lot of stress at work currently, I can't guarantee that I
will be able to do so.

Thise one should be applied _and_ probably submitted upstream. Perhaps
we could even convince upstream to drop the first of the two DEBUG
syslog messages.

This one should obviously be used.
I didn't check all the other things, but since they were confined to
/debian, they should be OK, except for the cyrus.conf change associated
with the idled patch - until we port that patch to 2.3.
Thanks for your effords by the way. And have some fun with that
autonomous submarine ;-)
/me is thinking about getting and reprogramming a roomba some day...
