Resource usage: Showed only minimal increases for me (less than 3%
AFAICT), using average stats over approx. 6hrs each for patch enabled
and disabled.
RFCs:  No RFC I checked specified any limits for the allowed sizes. I
ran into a problem with one of my mailinglist archives with >30,000
messages in them when I tried to move most of them (except the latest
500 or so) into a different folder (action taken with Thunderbird).
Problem disappeared with larger buffers.
