70-allow-larger-buffers.dpatch

I spent a couple of hours today looking over the source code for 
~imap/imapparse.c, ~lib/prot.h, etc. trying to figure out why someone 
added this patch (~/debian/patches/70-allow-larger-buffers.dpatch), and 
as far as I can tell both the original and the modified values are 
completely random.  Does anyone remember why this patch was added?
