reassign -1 libdb1-compat
retitle -1 libdb1-compat: please provide db_dump185 command in the libdb1-compat package
tags -1 + patch
thanks

I've thought a little more and decided to clone this bug report. The
reason is that only the libdb1-compat package or something relying on
appears to be capable of providing the db_dump185 command, which
appears to still be necessary for legacy database files. (See earlier
in this bug report for my analysis of the code.)

It is easy to implement in db1-compat using the db4.3 version of
db_dump185 linked against libdb1.so (patch provided to do this earlier
in this bug report). The only changes I would suggest to my patch are
to mention it in the control file package description and to change my
name on the changelog :)

Also, if db1-compat does decide to offer this, then db2 can just drop
it (or drop out of Debian completely, as is the plan, I am led to
believe).

I haven't made this bug a wishlist as there is no working db_dump185
currently present in Debian, and that is a significant problem for
some users. Feel free to change this!

   Julian
