I don't mind.  amd64 is slightly easier for me, but not much.

Yes, the environment are the files with the funny names containing two
underscores.

By the way, portability across Berkeley DB versions a different matter:
the environment format changes at each major release, the log file
format may change, but the database file format stays mostly the same
(except for the hash format, which was upgraded in 4.6).
