Ah, interesting.  I didn't manage to find those in my Googling, for some
reason.  Too many bloody sites uselessly archiving the same messages, I
guess.

Unfortunately, I think you're stuck with it for a while yet.  I can't
imagine why I didn't think of it before, but I just checked the Depends: for
netcfg, and there it is -- isc-dhcp-client-udeb [kfreebsd-any]

So you're stuck maintaining the udeb, and I'm stuck with the support code. 
We'll commiserate with each other over a beer sometime.  <grin>
